LORETTA CAPONI

The story of Loretta Caponi, the legend of Italian embroidery.

Born in 1924, Loretta was only 9 years old when she found her love for the craft that she would go on to build into one of Florence’s success stories.

By the forties and into the fifties her work found its way to Rome, finding a sophisticated audience of some of Rome’s most creative people.

Around this time, she married painter Dino Caponi and her world expanded into a world of art, literature and intellect, all inspirations to this burgeoning artist and businesswoman. At gatherings of artists in Dino’s atelier on Via degli Artisti, Loretta would serve her famous spaghetti, usually at midnight, and then the next day back to work, continuing to develop her clientele and extensive design archive.

1967 saw the opening of the first atelier and boutique on Borgo Ognissanti, Florence. A tiny shop but enough to continue to develop her clientele and of course her artistic work for the home and fashion.

It is here that her clientele developed to include notable Royals, The House of Windsor, The Belgium Royal Family, as well as notable families, The Kennedys, Gettys, Rothschilds and Rockfellers. Each one seeking out her luxuriously embroidered linens and burgeoning clothing collections. There followed a period of tremendous growth for the business.

Loretta Caponi, passed away in 2015, leaving a heritage that is looking towards the future under the helm of her daughter Lucia Caponi, Creative Director, and her grandson Guido, the Chief Operating Officer.They have expertly brought the company forward to 2025, launching a wide-ranging array of projects, remaining true to the heritage but looking at modernity too.
